Bloomberg Connects is a free arts and culture app from Bloomberg Philanthropies. Its expert-curated digital guides take people inside some of the world’s leading museums, galleries and cultural institutions, including The Met, MoMA, the Serpentine Galleries and the National Portrait Gallery.
The app exists to get more people engaged with the arts and to open up world-class institutions to everyone. As it entered its next phase of growth, it needed a brand that could draw in new audiences and stay relevant to a growing network of global partners.
The identity had to hold a careful balance. It needed to be immediately recognisable in app stores, on city billboards and on gallery signage, yet never distract from the art itself. It also had to convey a genuine link to the arts, even though Bloomberg is more widely known in the world of business. And it had to adapt gracefully to over a thousand partner institutions. Above all, the brand needed to become a platform for scale.

The result is a distinctive but restrained identity that sits between art and technology.
A new symbol brings together basic geometric forms, standing for art across the ages, and the outline of a device, which describes what the app does at a glance. The colour palette is bold enough to stand out in crowded settings, yet flexible enough to sit comfortably within cultural spaces. A clean, welcoming typographic system keeps everything clear and accessible, and motion is used with intent, adding energy that invites people to explore the arts.
